BENEFITS FOR PARENTS

Kelty backpack carriers are easy to adjust for the perfect fit for both you and your child passenger. Thanks to the auto deploying kickstand, the Kelty FC 1.0 is easy to get on and off safely, even without assistance. This Kelty carrier features plenty of attachment points for additional storage bags if you plan to take the FC 1.0 on a hiking trip or long daytime walk.

Designed by Kelty for maximum parent comfort, the FC 1.0 comes equipped with an outstanding adjustable suspension system. The padded waistbelt adjusts for an ideal fit, allowing the pack and passenger to pass from one caregiver to another with minimal fuss. We bought carriers from Eureka, Vaude, MEC and Kelty. This Kelty is BY FAR the most comfortable for your baby! And as far as comfort for the parent, you need to make adjustments to the torso height, and keep the hip belt tight to keep most of the weight on your hips instead of your shoulders. Many other brands have buckles in front of your baby’s belly that are pinchy and have no padding at all. I feel child carriers should be primarily focused on comfort for your child, and Kelty has nailed this on head. Also of note, many of the other brands of carriers DO NOT work well with small babies, like 6-12 months. This Kelty was comfy and rock solid for our little guy. Many others just aren’t designed for infants at all. Truly an awesome carrier. If you want a bit more comfort for yourself, then move up to the FC3.0 or 2.0. But don’t waste your time trying out other brands, Kelty is miles ahead of the competition. With the exception of a Vaude carrier I tried, which was very similar to the Kelty. However, the Vaude was DOUBLE the cost!! Kelty rocks!

    Not for me…

I ordered this pack after already purchasing the kelty fc 3.0. I thought the 3.0 was a little to big and heavy duty for what I wanted to use it for (around the house, soccer games, hiking some short, easy trails). I’m glad I didn’t return the 3.0 before the 1.0 came in. I tried the 1.0 for about an hour just around the house. After about 10 minutes my shoulders hurt and after about 20 minutes my whole back hurt. I then put her (my 7 month old) into the 3.0 and what a difference! The problem is the 1.0 doesn’t have the support bars that run from the top of the pack to the hip area so all of the child’s weight pretty much ends up on your shoulders. The 3.0 does a great job of transferring the weight to your hips. I’m relatively short (5’4″) and the 1.0 doesn’t have the same sliding torso adjuster that the 3.0 has either probably making the weight problem even worse. Maybe the 1.0 would be ok if I were taller but I’m not even sure that would fix the problem. Spend the extra money and go with the 3.0 or 2.0…

This pack was well constructed and lightweight, but it rested in an akward place on my lower back, making it difficult to walk. Also, the shoulder straps cut into my neck and collarbone – very uncomfortable. I returned this pack right away. Someone else might have luck with it, but I didn’t.
