Deuter Kid Comfort II Description

The Kid Comfort II is the top-selling Deuter backpack baby carrier. The Kid Comfort II combines all the essential components of a backpack baby carrier, namely: a kickstand, a well-padded and ventilated adjustable child cockpit, padded shoulder straps and hip belt, and load lift straps. Couple these elements with the Deuter Kid Comfort II’s ample storage space, and what you get is one of the most reliable, comfortable, and well constructed backpack baby carriers you can buy.

Deuter child carriers come highly recommended by the staff of ChildCarriers.com, and the improvements made by Deuter in  the 2007 line (see above) of Kid Comfort carriers only reinforces this perspective. One great thing about the Kid Comfort II is that its heavy-duty frame and storage space make it ideal for long hiking trips. The redesigned kickstand is easy to reach back and retract, and you’ll be less like to knock things over because it doesn’t stick out at far as it did before. Thanks to Deuter’s side-entry buckle system for your little one, getting them in and out of the cockpit has never been easier.

What is a Vari-Quick Harness?

Deuter offers a distinct adjustment for the shoulder harness of the Kid Comfort II that allows mom or dad to trade the pack and adjust its harness fit quickly and easily. A simple Velcro enclosure moves the shoulder straps up or down to accommodate different users, giving the Kid Comfort II quick and customizable comfort options that you can’t get with any other backpack baby carrier.

    For the Researching Dads

I have done a lot of researching to select what would be the best comfort for my 6’1″, 250lb frame. Also, I wanted the most comfortable and safe pack for my son, that included ample storage, quick access pockets, a space for a water bladder, and a shade cover. This pack does all that and much more. I took my son to Bushkill Falls, PA which is a strenuous stair climber hike for our first try of the pack. My son loved it. How do I know? He wanted to get in it right in the parking lot. No complaints from him, BTW he is 16 months old. For me, the pack was very comfortable. Tighten the waist belt good to take the weight and tighten the shoulder straps to keep it secure, and the pack is very comfortable. Easy to get on and off with the kid in it, and if you have a car seat, you get the idea of how to get your child in and out of it. The side entrance is much easier and probably why he opened it himself and tried climbing in. The other packs out there dont have that. You have to load your kid by picking them up and forcing them into those other packs. I like that the side entrance of the Deuter sort of includes the kids choice of getting in the pack. This eliminates a lot of crying of forcing them into doing something they aren’t sure of. I think you guys know what I mean. This is certainly the best bang for the buck and is great for long or short hikes. One last thing, it’s better the storage area is under the kid instead of behind them, making for far too bulky a pack. The Deuter makes it easy to maneuver through tighter spaces thanks to a slightly sleekier design.

    Comfortable for Mom but…

I purchased this carrier for my child, currently 28 inches. The carrier was one of the few that I tried that was comfortable for my 5’2″ frame & not terribly heavy, but even on the tightest settings, the shoulder straps were too complex & much too long to keep him in a good position & prevent him from flopping over to the side, getting his face between the side & front supports. Not only uncomfortable for him, but in that position the sunshade does nothing to protect the child’s face. The pillow on the front does provide a decent cusion, but it’s not removable for cleaning. The carrier is one of the few that stands safely on it’s own with the child inside, which can be especially useful for moms who can’t do certain things standing up ;) Though there is a large underseat storage area, when you put much of anything in it, the load pulls down to put pressure on your lower back. The other pockets are decent for small items. I would really LOVE to see this carrier with a removable pack, shorter adjustments, fewer clasps & a better sunshade!

I tried on many baby back pack carriers before deciding on this one. I use it every day as we walk our dog. It is comfortable, and my 10 month old son loves it. He often falls asleep in the backpack and has no problems napping as we walk. It is easy to get the pack on without assistance.

    Awesome carrier

I got this carrier for general travel (walks, grocery, shopping, beach) and LOVE IT. My son is 10 mos. old but heavy (24lbs.) and I can’t feel a pound with him on my back. At first I felt it in my shoulders and thought I was going to be disappointed, but realized that I just have to sort of hike it up over my hips, THEN buckle it, THEN tighten the shoulder straps. The weight disappeared when I did that. I am 5’4 and my husband is 6’4 and we both wear it well. Our son is so happy in the carrier, he can touch trees he can see what I see and he even sleeps in there. We are very happy with this purchase. Oh – we also live in Orange County and haven’t had a problem with “bulkiness” or bumping into people even though it’s crowded. But you do have to pay attention in the grocery store as he has taken a few things off the shelf – oops! highly recommended product.

My husband and I are avid backpackers so when our little boy came along we were happy to bring him along on our adventures (of course now they are baby/toddler friendly excursions)…but still, we’ve hiked on many 2-4mile hiking/camping trips with our happy baby-Now 2yr old in the Deuter Kid Comfort…now he is walking and riding…We both love it.. I find it comfortable once dialed in, and although the buckles can be a little tricky, holding back the front of the pack helps, and once secure its a safe and comfy fit! The sun shade and rain cover are helpful, although legs can get a little damp if it’s really pouring, other than that, lots of storage and pockets for storing easy reach snacks and toys, and the camel back bladder pocket makes staying hydrated a cinch for the whole family. Great Pack!

We live in Israel and made a 3 week trip with our 1 year old daughter to the USA. This was a great buy! It was just great walking in museums, farms, cities, etc. Our daughter also enjoyed it, because she got to see everything. The only disadvantage is when she fell asleep in it. We used a blow up airplane pillow. That did the trick.

I have done several day hikes with this backpack and our 11 month old loves it as much as I do. It is very comfortable and very adjustable. It took me a while to find that perfect fit, but once everything was set, it felt great. Our daughter falls asleep on every hike. I purchased the sunshade in addition (should be included with the backpack). But I like that it is detachable. The backpack offers also good amount of storage and special pouch for water bag.

We bought this backpack before our son was born. As soon as he was big enough we started carrying him this way — it’s 100 times more comfortable than the Bjorn! He’s now over 25lbs. and this is still incredibly comfortable. My husband and I battle over who will wear the backpack. Our son loves being about to look around and see everything. We bought the same pack for our friends as a baby gift. We also got the “lighter duty” Deuter for small trips into the grocery and mall. I’d buy this pack over and over again! It’s incredibly comfortable and so much better than a stroller.

I used this product for a four day trip to the Inner Harbor in Baltimore and wore it for hours on end in 90 degree temps. The heat made it a bit uncomfortable under the straps but that is expected.

Wonderful backpack. It is intuitive to use, as comfortable as it gets, and extremely useful when you need to pack your baby & baby gear to keep hands free. :) We also highly recommend getting it from childcarriers.com. Their call staff helped us properly determine the right backpack for our needs & we will be using the Kid Comfort II for many years to come.

The Kid Comfort II lives up to its name for both the child and the parent. The baby loves the commanding view over the parents’ heads, and the backpack does a superb job of distributing the load so that the carrying burden is minimal.

The straps are a little tricky to fasten with baby in the seat, but the baby is very secure and comfortable with the 5-point harness system backed up by the front and back pack walls. The kickstand works like a dream, and allows the pack to serve double duty as a temporary seat for baby as well as a child carrier (of course NEVER leave any child unattended).

Carrying the baby in the Deuter KCII is much less burden and work than a front carrier, and more comfortable for the child, too.

Parents need to take care when traveling through tight spots and under low branches. Also, in crowds it’s easier than you might realize to swing the pack into someone’s path, so turn around slowly.

This is a remarkable product that we know we will use for years.

Eli loves riding on the top of the world! This is a great way to travel through the airport and on walks. My husband wanted to use it while he mowed the lawn, but I saw him trying to pull start the lawnmower and Eli was being totally tossed around, duh! So I came out to start the mower and after that they had a great time. Another con that is not so easily avoided is sometimes Eli’s chin will rub up against the front of the carrier when we are hiking bumpy terrain. I think this problem will disappear as he grows older and more used to it. All in all, we love it and baby loves it!

This is one of the best purchases we’ve made for our little one. She loves it. We have travelled with it, used it shopping, hiking, skiing, walking around the neighborhood – it’s just great. It is a bit large and bulky but when you figure that we leave our stroller at home and travel across the country with it, it’s worth the size. The compartments hold a TON of stuff. We can pack our daughter’s (11 months) supplies for about 4 days in it – food, diapers, clothing, toys, etc. She loves being up high and seeing everything – squeeling with delight. It is comfortable for both my husband and I to wear – I am about 5’8″ and 140 lbs., while he is 5’10″ and 200 lbs. The waist, shoulder and compression straps are easy to adjust from one adult to the other. We’ve used the sun shade and the rain canopy, both easy to use and effective. I would buy this again in a heart beat!

    We Love the Deuter KCII

I’ve put some miles of walking on the Kid Comfort II now and can say that we– me the sherpa and the baby– are very happy with it.

Most importantly, the baby (a 6 month who weighs 20 lbs) likes riding. She apparently finds it comfortable, enough to fall asleep in when she’s tired.

Baby fusses only when put in and taken out of the carrier. Indeed, this part of the pack system could probably be better. The trickiest part are the clips for the shoulder straps. These twist on the straps and are somewhat difficult to get locked in place since the buckle is down around the child’s navel. The trick is to push apart the front and back of the seat with one hand/arm while snapping the buckles into place with the other. (Note: There are two main ways the child is secured: the shoulder straps which have a lower buckle, a chest buckle, and which tighten at the back of the pack; and side flaps which tighten with exterior buckles. All these other parts of the system are easy to use.)

Besides this the pack is great. I find it very comfortable– much more so than say a front facing baby carrier and often more convenient than a stroller for city walking. The pack itself is light and the storage pockets are very handy. The pack is rather large and bulky and does take up some space. I recently traveled with it by plane, however, placed in the same duffle bag with a car seat without any problem. I’ve used it much more than the car seat & stroller while traveling.

Lastly, I’m glad to be able to get a sun shade, which I just ordered. I give it 4.5 stars on account of the shoulder buckle.
