Deuter’s Kid Comfort I is a small, lightweight baby backpack preferred for urban use. The unique Vari-Quick harness system makes it comfortable to carry and keeps your back from getting really sweaty. Sweating on the trail is one thing, but c’mon -downtown in the city? Seriously though, Deuter has pioneered a three-way ventilation system that significantly reduces body temperature and increases ventilation. The child harness is adjustable and padded for comfort and adjustability
Basically, the Comfort I is a streamlined (but high quality), comfortable carrier for light, urban use. While most kid carrier lines have a designated “urban” or infrequent use carrier, the Deuter is probably one of the best in the category because of its relatively unobtrusive size.

My husband and I have used this pack with both our children hiking all over the country. I have tried some of my friends packs and nothing compared to this one. I highly recommend this product.

I have been very happy with my deuter pack. My son is about 30lbs. and I still can go with long walks with him. My shoulders tend to hurt a little because of the pack but it is minimal. I would definitely get the rainhood as an optional accessory.
Great buy

We purchased this carrier for a trip to Disney. Our daughter was 18months and it was great! She is in the 90% for weight and it still was good. She is now 30lbs and it’s too heavy for me. If your child is 2 but weighs less I would still recommend!!!
Love it! Could use baby head support

We just used this carrier for the first time while on vacation in Colorado. We hiked in the Rockies and our 14 month-old daughter loved being in this carrier! It’s very comfortable and easy to adjust. My husband and I traded off halfway through our hikes and had no trouble making adjustments on the fly. Great pocket space, too. We had room for a couple of water bottles and the baby’s drinks as well. The one suggestion we have is better head support for a sleeping baby. At one point, she fell asleep and her head was bobbing back and forth, so we cut our hike short. Otherwise, we both highly recommend this carrier.

At first we loved our Deuter Kid Comfort I. The sun shade and the rain gear work well. Our daughter seemed to enjoy her view from the carrier. We started carrying her in it at about nine months old. Just recently it has become a little uncomfortable for her. She’s now 22 months old 27lbs. and 34 inches tall. The seat and the harness kind of cut into her legs after any significant length of time. So, we don’t go beyond a good dog walk, and definitely not to the zoo. The seat seems a little shallow for toddlers. However, for just over a year it seemed to be the perfect carrier!
Suits it’s purpose, no complaints

When the carrier arrived I was a bit disapointed to find that my daughter and I were both a little small for this carrier. My fit- I am 5’6 and 120 lbs, had to call to make sure I was adjusting it correctly. I could not make it as snug as I would like. The first few times I used it my shoulders and back became very sore. With my husbands help adjusting it I was able to get a better fit and no longer experience any pain. My husband likes to use the carrier more then I do. I still tend to reach for my front pack when the stroller is not an option. I am certain it will get more use when our daughter is older and we have a second shild occupying the stroller. Her fit- At 9 months the harness and seat needed to be in the tightest and highest settings respectively. Our daughter is in the 50th percentile for weight and 75th for height. Overall- The carrier looks great, has plenty of storage and is easy to get on and off independently. My daughter truely enjoys riding in it. Other then the initial difficulty getting it to fit snug enough (no fault to Deuter), I would not recomend it to a petite female or a very small sitter. We truely are happy with our purchase. Rain/Sun Cover- Although we have used our rain/sun protector occasionally, a good sun hat and a large golf ubmrella would serve the same purpose. Happy hunting, we sure took our time and did lots of research prior to making our purchase.
Better than the rest!

After trying out an REI and Kelty brand backpack, I ordered a Deuter Kid Comfort I. It fit so much better than the others, for me and my daughter. A slim 10 month old, she kept sliding around in the other seats but is held well inside the Deuter. Her shifts in weight are not nearly as noticeable compared to the Kelty pack, which seems to be made for larger kids who will sit way back. I am 5’6″ and still felt that the other backpacks were made for taller people. The frame would hit me when I walked. The Deuter feels more like a regular backpack does and is adjustable enough that my 6′ tall husband can wear it too. So far I am using it to walk the dog for several miles at a time and on some light hikes, and it has been wonderful! It is lightweight but still has ample padding. I am recommending it to every mom I know.
The Deuter is very comfortable and lightweight

The backpack on the whole works very well; it is adjustable for both my husband and I as well as the baby. The only weakness are the latches which do not hook without some effort. Once he’s hooked in, we are off and he seems quite comfortable, although no one seems to have invented the right thing for babies who fall asleep and tip their little heads over at a 90 degree angle!
Outstanding Backpack!!

I am so trilled with having bought this backpack. I love to take dayhikes. The Baby Bjorn worked fine while our daughter, now 14 months old, was small. We thought the stroller was enough for now. But after 2 months of searching and contemplating whether we really needed to spend the money, I bought a Deuter. I looked at the Kelty Brand (they don’t fold up for storage and are so big). I was determined to find a backpack that could be used for urban walking as well as country hiking. The padding for the child and parent is tremendous. Adjusting the harness is easy. It didn’t take me long to adjust it so that I hardly notice the extra weight it is so evenly distributed. Ask the professional at the Sports store to help you adjust the pack if you have problems, the fit is the most important. I do wish that Deuter would have a second handle at the back of the pack for lifting the pack. But, this is a minor wish. I hope that you are able to find a Deuter near you to try on. It will make you want to buy one in a minute!!!
Seems OK, but maybe for taller folks?

I’ve used the Deuter KidComfort I now about 3 times. The first was on an hourlong walk around town on pavement, the second was traveling and in the airport and the third was just for a quick errand. It really looks great, and seems safe, padded and all that. However, my sole issue is an important one. I cannot seem to get the fit right. I am 5′ 5-1/2″ and even with a longer torso, it seems the pack does not sit high enough on my tailbone. Since I am slim, I do not have a lot of “hips” for the pack to sit on and need the extra help of it on my tailbone. Unfortunately we do not have a backpack outfitter store nearby to help me figure out if I’m doing something wrong (I bought it online). I have the adjustment on the lowest setting (that is, the pack sits as low to the waistbelt as I can get it). If anyone has any ideas, please email me! Other than that, it seems like a great pack. Thanks!
Love this pack!!!

We’ve had this backpack about five months and we love it. We were using a hand-me-down Evenflo with absolutely no parent padding for the winter. Our daughter loved the ride and the view but it was uncomfortable for both my husband and myself. The Deuter is comfortable, adjustable and well-worth the investment. My daughter sits close to my body which I like. I don’t feel like I am being pulled backward by her weight. The hip belt and sternum strap really help keep the weight off my shoulders. I have no pain when wearing this backpack and I had crippling pain with the Evenflo and the Bjorn. My husband and I are about the same height, 5’10 1/2″, although my husband has a longer torso, and it works well for both of us. My daughter, now 22 months old, loves riding in the pack. I looked for a backpack with an exposed frame so she would have somewhere to rest her feet. Being able to rest her feet on something gives her the ability to shift around and get comfortable if she needs to, and keeps those little feet and legs from getting restless and falling asleep. The backpack itself is small so if I wear it when going into to town, I can go into stores easily. I generally use it in place of a stroller in situations like that. We’ve used it hiking, for street fairs, walks into town and are all three very happy that we made the investment.
